The women with babies on their back and hand, sitting at the side of the road, begging on the street of Rumokoro Junction, Port Harcourt are actually not Nigerians. These women who looking like fulanis left their country, Nigel to Nigeria due to the Hard condition in their country.
They send their children to approach passerbys and beg for money, some of the kids even hold their hands till they are given money.
According to one of the women, Aisha Ibrahim, she said Hunger brought them to Nigeria, because things are very difficult in Nigel that they wouldn’t even love to return..
“Na food we dey find, na make us dey beg money, things hard for Nigel” she said.
The women said men here put them in a family way and run away, Aisha Ibrahim said her own husband is in owerri and still checks on her here in Port Harcourt.
“My husband dae owerri, e be shoemaker” she said.
A lot of people assumed that these women are comfortable, living on begging on daily basis, but on the contrary the women expressed how displeased they feel to beg, that they are willing to work if they are employed.
“we sabi make hair well, we ready to work, even na cleaners we go work” they said.
